There are a few things not to be expected at Holbrook's. One, inside seating. Two, dirt under your feet. Three, plates.

Instead, you're seated on a wharf, where if the tide is high you can see the waves sloshing through the cracks between the boards. You'll have a view across the New Meadows river toward the Sebasco section of Phippsburg, and around the southern end of Cundy's Harbor. And if the dock is full, make sure you have your dinghy so you can anchor and row in for your lobster roll.

(Yes, you can drive to Holbrook's too, but Maine's coastal geography is such that for some people, it's much quicker by boat.)

Visited Holbrooks last night in a party of four. Holbrooks does not serve alcoholic beverages on the wharf, but you can go to the nearby country store and buy beer or wine to have with your meal. They have a good selection of both. We enjoy coming to Holbrooks by boat but most customers come by car and enjoy the salt air on the wharf while they eat. You can eat undercover or out in the open at a picnic table. The service was prompt and courteous. One of our party had fried scallops which were big sea scallops, tender and cooked to perfection. Two of us enjoyed lobster, one in a roll and one in a salad. Both were fresh lobster tossed in light mayonnaise. The roll comes with fries and cole slaw. Both were very good. The salad came with mixed greens and dressing. The fourth member of our party had a fried haddock basket. This was tender fish and not dry and over cooked. This also came with fries and cole slaw. A good selection of Gifford’s ice cream, pie or crisp was available for dessert. Holbrooks is a gem by the ocean!

We cruised to this harbor location in Cundy's Harpswell, Maine and spent a relaxed time savoring the great food in this idyllic spot. There were four of us enjoying a crabmeat salad, lobster roll, lightly fried haddock and lightly fried scallops. Each served in a basket with delicious frys and cole slaw. We each enjoyed our choice which were served promptly and pleasantly. We shared a taste of the scallops and concluded they were the best any of us had ever had. The relaxing evening was capped with delicious desserts including blueberry pie, apple crisp and blueberry ice cream. After a delightful evening in the midst of a full wharf of folk we sailed off into the sunset. August 13,2007
