The Muddy Rudder

This is a popular seafood restaurant right on Route 1 in Yarmouth before you get to the "Big Indian" going east toward Freeport. The food is good and plentiful. The atmosphere is great as it sits on a marshy backwater from the Royal River which flows directly into Casco Bay. On most weekends, they have a piano player who doesn't overwhelm most conversation but adds to the atmosphere. It is likely to be crowded on a Saturday night and is popular with the locals.

DiMillo's Floating Restaurant

This is one of the most visible restaurants in Portland. It is a converted ferry boat and is situated at the end of Long Wharf in the Old Port section of Portland. You can't beat the scenery as there is constant activity on the waterfront and most tables have a view. If you have any fears of becoming sea sick while eating on a boat forget them! It is nothing but fun and you feel no motion what so ever. Nice place to try.

Owls Head General Store

Don't be fooled by the General Store name. This place has a excellent sandwich service, several tables inside, self serve drinks, gift trinkets, and only a few actual groceries. The sandwich service includes burgers and the usual, but also daily specials and on fresh baked bread. You can eat in or out. In the summer it would be a great place to pick up a sandwich and go on to the Owls Head lighthouse which features picnic tables and great views of lobster boats, the ocean and the lighthouse.

Moody's Diner

No one can travel U.S. Route #1 in Maine without visiting Moody's Diner. This fabled diner is the home of fresh baked pies, fresh coffee, good simple food and great atmosphere. You can even get smelts in season at Moody's. The food is plentiful and inexpensive. One hint, however, during the summer, the wait could be a long one. It's an experience, however, not to be missed.

Sarah's Dockside

Sarah's Dockside is owned and run by the same people who run Sarah's in Wiscasset. However, don't expect the same fare you get in Wiscasset. This is an eat by the water, outside, seafood place. Also, be aware that the only facilities are a portable outhouse. It is also a bit of a trek down dirt roads to get to the dock, but the way is well marked. You can also go by boat since there is dock area, however limited.
