Tu Y Yo bills itself as a "fonda," which is "...a place where people could get typical dishes of the region prepared using family recipes." It's not a typical Mexican restaurant.

When they say "authentic and out of the ordinary," neither is an overstatement -- the food is unique and as such a little hit or miss.

The food is delicious, and authentically mexican. Most every entree comes with a side of the most delicious beans and rice I've found in Boston. However, its not the place to go to find your typical tex-mex specialties (no burritos to be found here).
On the down side, the portions rather small (I have to eat a second dinner if I go here, but then, I eat a lot), and it is a bit pricey (expect to pay around $18/entree). Still, the food is delicious, the atmosphere lovely, and the experience unique. With these qualities in mind, I give it 4 stars.
