    The Cushman Market and Cafe is a great, colorful improvement on the old Cushman General Store, which building it took over. The front is still in the general store mold, albeit with a heavy lean towards microbrews and organics. The back is the cafe, with named sandwiches, coffee, and wireless, making this a destination for a certain kind of UMass grad student who wants to get away from campus, but not too far away.

    Order at the counter, find a seat, and wait for the staff to call your name. The sandwiches are standard deli stuff, with a row of vegetarian sandwiches and panini as well. If your reading tastes run to newspapers, there's often a copy or two of the local dailies stacked by the counter or scattered by section about the tables.
