Help on How to post to your Common Kitchen blog

Posting to your Common Kitchen blog is pretty simple. Start by clicking the "Manage Your Blog" links which will you can find on the blog list page, your account page, or on the main page of your blog itself. If you haven't created your blog yet, those links will say something like "Create your blog" instead.

Once you're in the blog management page, you'll see a link called "write a new post" which is under the count of posts and above the listing of existing posts. Click that link, and you'll find a page with everything you need to create a new post.

Here's what you'll find on that page:

Title: You should give your post a title. It can be the name of a dish, or a date, or something else simple. It's most useful if your title reflects the main idea of the post, though.

Article Content: This is the body of the blog post. You can learn more about the details of formatting a post in the Blog post formatting page.

Toggle Expanded Content: The idea of "expanded content" is that it allows you to have a paragraph or two of introduction in the "Article Content" section, and then continue at length in the "expanded" or "extended" section. On your main blog page, only the "Article Content" section is shown; readers will need to click a link to reach the "expanded" section. Most people don't use this, so it's hidden by default; click this link to reveal the expanded content section.

Tags: Tags for blog posts work the same way as tags do elsewhere on the site. Put in a few keywords that capture the essence of your post, and you're fine.

Allow Comments: If you un-check this box, readers will not be able to leave comments about your blog post.

Allow trackbacks: Checking this box will allow other blog authors to write related articles and place a response link on your page.

Published: If you're not ready to make your blog entry public, un-check this box. You will be able to edit it as a draft from your blog management page, but it won't be visible to readers until you check the "Published" box.

Add as recipe to Common Kitchen: If you've included a recipe in your blog post, checking this box will automatically include it in the Common Kitchen recipe database, allowing others to find it, try it out, and rate it.

Publish At: If you want to time a post to appear at a certain time in the future, or back-date an entry, you can adjust the posting time here. Otherwise, leave it alone, and it should be fine.

All done? Click "Save" and you're finished! It's that easy.
